Bilawal Bhutto Zardari enjoying his vacations!

At Oxford University, 19 year old Bilawal was attending his classes in routine, when suddenly he planned a trip to Pakistan. His friends, familiar of the recent tragic death of his mother Benazir Bhutto, knew that he is the chairman of one of the largest political parties of Pakistan, the PPP, but they could not comprehend the reason for his taking a week off. He was not in London for some days, because he had to do some ‘important’ work … choose the name of the Prime Minister in Pakistan! Thats a not such a common reason to take a vacation.

But, anyways, thats how Pakistan works! and thats how the future of our people gets built or rather destroyed. Certain groups and mindsets who have created a circle of influence, power and resources don’t let others get into the game and they do whatever needs to be done in order to retain the positions.

People of Pakistan might have an emotional attachment to the “Bhutto” phenomenon, but that does not mean party leadership transferring from grandfather to daughter and then to grandson. Thats not the way democratic parties should work and if there is no internal democracy in the parties, how can they bring about democracy in a nation.

Lets see where this politics of hierarchy takes the Pakistan Peoples Party to. As the recent friction between party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and President PPPP Makhdoom Amin Fahim gets to surface, we might see widening gaps and disintegration of the People’s Party, unless Makhdoon Amin Fahim decides not to challenge the circle of influence of the Bhuttos!
